In a world of automatic machines and wise (not as wise as we would like) programs that try to make things easier I have found (reading Joe Grossberg) a Japanese webpage that generates icons up to 100*100 pixels and this one.They are specially made for MSN Messenger, but you can use it for any other app.
It couldn't be easier....well, it can even be easier if you choose one of their gallery
